The Scimitar pattern Jetbikes were available to the Legiones Astartes during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. They were typically used in Sky-Hunter squadron formations.[1]

Overview

Scimitar Jetbikes are modifications of designs which considerably predated the Imperium. They are propelled by a jet-engine and their gravity is assisted by a grav-impellor allowing them to maintain great speeds for extended periods of low altitude flight. Their lift-strength is sufficient to carry a heavily armoured Space Marine and his wargear, but also a variety of heavy weapons mounts and stocks of ammunition, giving the Sky-Hunters extremely potent firepower.[1]

Given the materials required to make and maintain them (such as iridium-calicite alloys and repulsor plates), demand for them by the Legions has largely been outstripped.[1]

The Shamshir pattern Jetbike was a rare variant of the Scimitar Jetbike, that was heavily used by the Golden Keshig of the White Scars Legion during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy for its increased speed and manoeuvrability. However, production of the Shamshir was limited to small Mechanicum enclaves established in the Kolarne Circle and maintained by an ancient treaty with the White Scars and their Primarch Jaghatai Khan.[2]

Shamshir Jetbikes were equipped with a Scatterbolt Launcher.[5]
