Varius (Inquisitor)
Varius was an Inquisitor-Lord active in late M41[1a] and one of the architects of the Anphelion Project.[1c]

Biography
Varius has been responsible for sanctioning a number of experiments with the aim of combating the threat that the Tyranids pose to the survival of the Imperium, including the creation of genetically-modified soldiers when the Tyranids invaded Dantris IV. He has even gone as far as to petition the Inquisitorial Representative to allow a new Founding of Space Marine Chapters.[1c]
Varius' work led to the creation of the Anphelion Project.[1c] As part of the project[1c], Varius ordered Inquisitor Solomon Lok to investigate the cessation of communications from an Imperial research facility on Beta Anphelion IV.[1a] On Lok finding the facility deserted, Varius gave the order for Lok and his forces to recover any data and samples they could from the facility's laboratories before leaving.[1b] After Beta Anphelion IV was overrun by Tyranids and Lok and his forces wiped out, Varius gave the order to enact Exterminatus on the moon.[1c]
Following the decryption of data related to the project, Varius was investigated by the Ordo Hereticus for exceeding his Mandate. They have concluded that, for now, Varius' execution is to be postponed due to his proven results combating the Tyranid threat. However, the warrant for his execution is still ready to be filled should he outlive his usefulness.[1c]
Retinue
Varius' retinue includes Guardsman Hanri, formerly of the Lostock 23rd regiment, one of the only surviving Gland Warriors from the Tyranid invasion of Dantris III.[1d]
