Zaar Siakaar
Zaar Siakaar was a Claw Master in the Night Lords Legion, during the Horus Heresy.[1]
History
He took part in the Thramas Crusade and afterwards, Siakaar was among the Night Lords who later invaded Sotha. He was chosen to lead the initial assault on Sotha and boasted of the victory his forces would win as the assembled Night Lords looked on. As always Siakaar's ambition outstripped his caution, but such a victory would see him rise high in the esteem of his now leaderless Legion. This would give him a chance at true power, yet few of the more established Night Lords captains cared for the bragging coming from the upstart whelp. These grim veterans however granted Siakaar his opportunity, with several even offering their supply of elite Atramentar to support Siakaar's assault. A group of Atramentar drawn from the missing Captain Sevatar's First Company would also serve as his bodyguard. Blinded by dreams of glory, the Claw Master took them at their word and moved his ships to the vanguard of the fleet. After Siakaar's warships bombarded the city of Sothopolis, Siakaar's forces invaded and began their rampage. The city's population began to escape towards the Ultramarines' Castellum that defended the approach to the Pharos, while the Loyalist Legion's Aegida Company attempted to stop the Night Lords. Siakaar's forces overwhelmed them, however, and the last of the Loyalists rallied around the Centurion Vieron Ekarr.[1]
He was the last Ultramarine officer left in the city and the Centurion sought to give those who escaped as much time as he could, to reach the Legion's Castellum. Ekarr made his stand in front of a statue of the Ultramarines' Primarch Guilliman, where their disciplined shieldwall met the brawling and murderess attacks of the Night Lords. Once the Night Lords superior numbers had weakened the Ultramarines enough, though, Siakaar decided it was time for him to strike and claim an easy victory. He ordered his Spartan to crash through the Ultramarines, where it killed both the Loyalists and his own forces, who Siakaar considered to be expendable. The Claw Master's attack, created an opening that allowed the Night Lords to pour past the Ultramarines shieldwall and they began to overwhelm the Loyalists. One of Siakaar's Atramentar then attacked the Centurion Ekarr and as they duelled, the Claw Master stabbed the Ultramarine from behind with his Lightning Claws. The attack destroyed Ekarr's hearts, which then allowed the Atramentar to behead the Centurion with his Nostraman Chainglaive. The now leaderless Ultramarines, were all killed soon afterwards and Siakaar then began carving his mark upon Ekarr's body. However, it was at that moment that his Atramentar bodyguard followed the orders they had been given by the other Night Lords Captains to eliminate the vainglorious Claw Master. In their eyes, Siakaar had dared to step beyond his place to seek worthless glory and honour and paid with his life for his transgression.[1]
