Description
It contains a few islands that, besides the Dragons Ardent's facilities, also hold a small scattering of primitive settlements. Because Nautilos lacks an significant land masses, however, its waves can grow extremely large and some continuously circle the world. A rare few of these giant waves have even been names and a place in Nautilos' primitive population's pantheon of gods. However even its smaller waves are powerful enough to kill a Space Marine, by dashing them against the rockcrete of Nautilos' islands. Its people also believe that if you press your ears to the world's seashells, you could hear the demands of Nautilos' gods. They thought this was true, regardless of where they were and when orbital supply lighters came down for Nautilos' trawlermen, they would go aboard the ships festooned in whelk shells and conches.[1]

The following paragraphs contain spoilers for: | It Bleeds (Short Story) |
Sometime after the Great Rift's creation, Nautilos was invaded by the World Eaters's Foresworn Warband and they destroyed the Dragons Ardent. This was despite the Chapter's resistance and that at least a Company's worth of the Foresworn's Berzerkers were lost to the world's deadly waves. The Warband then left and only Captain Kurrinon is known to have survived the invasion. However he swore to take revenge on the Foresworn and left in pursuit of the Warband shortly afterwards. Sometime later, though, a Torchbearer Fleet arrived to reinforce the Dragons Ardent and instead discovered that the Chapter had been destroyed. Using the Greyshields that been meant to strengthen the Dragons Ardent's numbers, were instead used to Refound the Chapter. The Fleet then repaired the Dragons' Ardent's damaged facilities and the restored Chapter was then ready to serve the Imperium once more.[1]
Notes
It is not clear in the story, why the orbital ships come to collect Nautilos' trawlermen.[1]
