They were among the Imperial forces that aided in the defense of the Tyranid invaded Recidious System. There, Sarkaana personally led the 8th Cadian's Guardsmen on Kadaku, alongside the Ultramarines' 2nd Company. When the decision was made to abandon the world, though, the Major was charged with protecting the world's Orbital Defence Cannons. These massive weapons were needed to keep the Tyranids' Bio-Ship's at bay, so that the Imperium could evacuate Kadaku. However, the Tyranids swarmed the Regiment and forced the 8th Cadian to retreat before the evacuation was complete. Her Guardsmen regrouped in a new location, but continued to be attacked by the Xenos. In desperation, Sarkaana contacted the 2nd Company's Captain, Sevastus Acheran, and told him what had happened. She implored Acheran to send her Ultramarine reinforcements to aid the Regiment in not only fending the Tyranids off, but to also reclaim Kadaku's Orbital Cannons. The Captain agreed and sent Lieutenant Demetrian Titus's Combat Squad Damocles to help the Cadians.[1a]
When the Thunderhawk Absolver, deployed the Squad at the 8th Cadian's new location, they met with Major Sarkaana who informed them of the situation. Upon learning that the Tyranids were continuing to launch assaults against the Regiment, Titus charged the Squad member Lyreo with helping the Cadian 8th secure their location, with the aid of Elion and Altareus. The Lieutenant, meanwhile would take Gadriel and Chairon to reclaim the Orbital Defence Cannons. Once the area was secure, though, the three were to rejoin Titus and aid in reclaiming the Cannons as well. Titus's group then departed, and sometime later Lyreo's group did as well. The Lieutenant would contact Sarkaana after he encountered a group of Guardsmen led by Captain Iden. Their group had become separated from the Regiment, during the 8th Cadian's retreat, and the Major had thought Iden had died. All that time, though, the Captain had been trying to contact Sarkaana, in order to know when they would launch an attack against the Tyranids. With his long-range vox damaged, Iden had been unable to reach the Major, until Titus encountered his group. Using the Lieutenant's vox, Sarkaana was glad that the Captain still lived and ordered him to aid Titus in recapturing the facility that housed Kadaku's Orbital Cannons. Once they did so, the Major transported her forces there with Valkyries and defended the area, while Titus successfully recharged the Cannons. With the massive weapons firing once more the evacuation could continue.[1a]
Shortly afterwards, with the aid of the Ultramarines, Sarkaana and a group of the 8th Cadian, led the Archmagos Nozick Beta-12 to safety, after the Tyranids invaded his facility. Though she was charged with evacuating the Archmagos, from the Astra Militarum base he was now secure in, Nozick refused to leave without the data of the secret project he was working on. In order to complete her mission, the Major sent three squadrons to the Archmagos' facility, but she lost contact with all of them. Nozick would request the Ultramarines' aid in this task and once Captain Sevastus Acheran became aware of the situation, he once more sent Combat Squad Damocles to help the Cadians. After deploying from the Thunderhawk Absolver, Nozick told Lieutenant Demetrian Titus what he needed the Squad to do, before he would evacuate. The Lieutenant took on the task with the aid of Gadriel and Chairon, while leaving Lyreo and Altareus to guard the Archmagos. Sarkaana warned Titus, though, of the three squadrons she had lost trying to do so. The Lieutenant later encountered one such squadron, that was led by Sergeant Byron. After saving the Guardsmen from an attack by Tyranids, Titus contacted the Major and she sent a Valkyrie to transport Byron's squadron to her base. The Astra Militarum base was later under attack by the Tyranids, however, when Nozick successfully received the data from Titus. Though they were still near the facility, the Lieutenant told Lyreo to immediately board the Absolver and evacuate the Archmagos to their Battle Barge, the Resilient. The order was obeyed at once, and the two Intercessors left with Nozick aboard the Thunderhawk, along with the Archmagos' research.[1b]
However before they could get far, the Thunderhawk was wracked with explosions and began to crash. No one on the ground has seen what had hit the Absolver, but it had landed in an area held by the Tyranids. When Titus, Gadriel and Chairon reached the Thunderhawk,[1b] they could see that everyone aboard it had died.[1c] This had been no accident, though, as the Absolver's remains were daubed with the markings of Chaos, along with the name of Imurah and Nozick had been purposely impaled upon a part the Thunderhawk's wreckage.[1b] It was soon discovered, that this had been the work of the Thousand Sons Sorcerer Lord Imurah, who then launched his own invasion of the Recidious System. The Traitor Legion focused their attack on Demerium and Sarkaana was among the Imperial forces pulled from Recidious' other worlds to combat the Heretics. Though the 8th Cadian suffered major losses during the battle, the Imperium prevailed and Imurah was killed by Lieutenant Titus. Afterwards, the Major and her Regiment continued to defend the Recidious System against the Tyranids.[1c]
