Battle Group Gamma is part of Indomitus Crusade Fleet Quartus[1a], which has largely been corrupted by Khorne's Murder-Curse.[1b]

History

The Battle Group was originally sent to aid the Rift Stalkers in concluding a seven year war against Heretic forces in the Bargheist Stars. Gamma was sent alongside its fellow Quartus Battle Groups Cerastus and Lambdax, which led to the Imperium's victory. However, as the Imperials were celebrating, the Ork hordes of Warboss Grukk Face-rippa suddenly invaded.[1a] When word of this attack reached Quartus, Battle Group Irasmus was sent to aid in the Bargheist Stars' defence.[2] All four Battle Groups have since become hard-pressed by Face-rippa's hordes and have sent word to Fleetmaster Trincus Abconcis that they would be committed to the Bargheist Stars for the foreseeable future. This was among the numerous setbacks Fleet Quartus suffered, which caused it to fall behind the gruelling schedule that Lord Commander Guilliman had set for the Fleetmaster.[1a]

The Battle Groups were thus still active within Imperium Sanctus[1b], when the majority of the Fleet's forces went to defend the Choral Engine on the world of Malakbael in the Imperium Nihilus.[1a] Despite Quartus' might, the psychic beacon was destroyed by the Daemon Primarch Angron, which unleashed Khorne's Murder-Curse within the Malak System. However, because of the psychic channels the Fleet's Battle Groups shared, even those outside of the System were struck by the Warp plague. It caused those infected to become servants of the Blood God, filling them with murderous bloodlust and rage and causing them to fall upon anyone near them. While not all those who were struck by the Murder-Curse were infected, only the Fleet's Sisters of Silence and Custodians were immune to the Warp plague. When the Imperium learned of the widespread infection and attacks, Fleet Quartus was declared Excommunicate Traitoris, despite millions of its forces still being uncorrupted and loyal.[1b]
