Cernis IV was a Penal World of the Imperium.[1a]

The fourth planet of the Cernis System, Cernis IV was populated by convicts, many of whom were forced to man promethium refineries based around the planet's north pole.[1a]

History

At one time the planet was visited by Kor'sarro Khan and the Third Company of the White Scars Chapter, who were on the hunt for Kernax Voldorius, a Daemon Prince of the Alpha Legion. The White Scars had tracked one of Voldorius's ships, The Ninth Eye, to the system after it had led an attack on Sinopha Station.[1a]

The Space Marines deployed to the northern polar regions using a flight of five Thunderhawk gunships. There, they discovered that the promethium workers had allied with the Alpha Legion. These workers fought back against the White Scars.[1a]

The White Scars fought their way through the rebel convicts and Alpha Legion to confront Voldorius, only to discover that the installation was a trap - Voldorius was not actually present on Cernis IV and the entire refinery was rigged with seismic charges that awakened a great beast dwelling beneath the ice. Although the White Scars took losses in the fighting, they were able to escape and continue their hunt.[1b]

Geography

The regions around Cernis IV's north pole host a multitude of crystalline formations composed of an as-yet unidentified material.[1a]

Other Planetary Data

Cernis IV has many moons (at least six). The complex gravitational interactions of the moons' orbits result in heightened levels of atmospheric distortion.[1a]
