Nevak was a Sorcerer in the Death Guard Legion, who took part in the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.[1]

History

He would at first suppress his psychic powers, however, both because of the Edict of Nikaea and because of his Primarch, Mortarion's, hatred of Psykers. It was only until Nevak came to the notice of the Death Guard's First Captain, Calas Typhon, that this finally changed. This occurred during the Horus Heresy, when a then Sergeant Nevak was among his Legion's forces that invaded the Loyalist world Iaspis. Their Primarch had ordered Typhon to completely destroy it and the Sergeant aided in attacking Iaspis' capital Polita. There, however, he was ordered to destroy a building that held psykers and did so so completely that nothing remained. Killing his fellow psykers, though, filled Nevak with self-hatred so strong that he became angry. It was at this time, that the Sergeant came to the notice of Typhon who became disquieted at the destruction Nevak had wrought. The First Captain had recently come under the sway of Nurgle and was now honoring the Chaos God by destroying Iaspis in a way that caused its population to suffer a slow death, through misery and disease. In turn, Nurgle's power began to engulf the world and aided in Iaspis' decay by speeding the spread of its diseases and the rapidness of their symptoms. This was why the Sergeant's actions had so disturbed Typhon, who then secretly met with Nevak in order to sway him to the First Captain's cause. Typhon became even more determined to do so, when the Sergeant's anger intrigued the First Captain and led to the discovery of Nevak's psyker ability.[1]

To seal the Sergeant's alliance, Typhon brought Nevak to the city of Sappir, which had been among the first to fall to the Death Guard. Like the First Captain had done across Iaspis, the city had died in a way that caused a slow and painful death to its surviving population. Nurgle aided in this and Nevak was left in wonder at the speed in which the population had become diseased and visibly sickened. Typho remarked that it was through the worship of the Chaos God's powers, that the disease spread and a new form of life flourished amid the destroyed city. The enraptured Sergeant was still unsure, until Typhus told Nevak to look upon the dying population with his psychic abilities fully unleashed. The Sergeant did so and was soon left awestruck by the numerous variety of diseases he could see with his gift. Typhon then remarked that Nevak could create this as well, if he embraced his powers and followed the First Captain in worshiping Nurgle. When the Sergeant brought up their Primarch, Mortarion's, commands against using their Psyker abilities, Typon dismissed this.[1]

The First Captain remarked that Mortarion had only come to that decision, due to his war against the Xenos Overlord psykers on his Homeworld, Barbarus, as well as the influence of the Emperor. Typhon was sure that in time, the Primarch would dismiss these orders, just like Mortarion had done to the other lies the Imperium had made him embrace. When that time came, Typhon assured Nevak, the Primarch would have need of Psykers like them and the powers they wielded. The First Captain then waved to the warped diseases around them and stated that this was a sign of what was to come. With this subtle prodding, Nevak came under Typhon's sway and agreed to follow in the First Captain's steps. The two corrupted Psykers then prepared for the next step in their now awakened journey of worshiping Nurgle. This would now include spreading the worship of Nurgle throughout the Death Guard, as the Horus Heresy continued.[1]
