Iaspis is a former Imperial world, that is now in the thrall of the Chaos God Nurgle.[1]

History

It was brought into Compliance during the Great Crusade and became a resource rich Industrial World which exported Promethium. This made the Primarch Mortarion select the world to be destroyed by the Death Guard, during the Horus Heresy. He would charge his First Captain, Calas Typhon, with this task and ordered Typhon to take what resources the Traitor Legion needed from Iaspis' remains afterwards. The world's defenders became aware of this, however, and heavily prepared for the Death Guard's invasion. This included strings of orbital gun platforms, strong walls around its major cities and an army of millions, which contained thousands of conscripts. However while the world was given several Regiments of Solar Auxilia to defend it, Iaspis was not strategically important enough to warrant the protection of the Loyalist Space Marine Legions. In the end, though, its defenses were not enough to stop the Death Guard.[1]

Led by the Terminus Est, the Traitor Legion's fleet destroyed Iaspis' orbital defenses, before the Death Guard launched an invasion. Among the first cities to fall was Sappir, which included the world's only space sport and prevented the defenders from escaping. The world's capital city, Polita would soon follow it, but Typhon did not follow his Primarch's orders to the letter. While Mortarion had ordered the world to be destroyed, the First Captain had recently come under the sway of Nurgle and was now honoring the Chaos God by causing Iaspis' population to suffer a slow death, through misery and disease. In turn, Nurgle's power began to engulf the world and aided in Iaspis' decay by speeding the spread of its diseases and the rapidness of their symptoms. As he did so, Typhon secretly convinced the suppressed Death Guard Psyker Nevak to embrace his psychic abilities and join the First Captain in worshiping Nurgle. By the time the Death Guard left Iaspis, it was destroyed and now fully engulfed in the diseased grip of the Chaos God. Typhon meanwhile, had gained a new ally to aid him in spreading Nurgle's worship throughout the Traitor Legion.[1]
