Dominion (Knight World)

History

The following paragraphs contain spoilers for: Assassinorum: Kingmaker (Novel)

Dominion is home to two Knight Houses: House Stryder and House Rau. For many millennia the two houses feuded over the rightful ownership of their world, eventually reaching an uneasy truce whereby the two houses each had their own separate realm on Dominion, with the houses ruled by a single High Monarch.[1a][1f] Likewise, the High Monarch's potential successors in "The Lists" were officially part of neither House.[1a][1e]

In the Age of the Dark Imperium, rumours reached Imperial authorities that the High King of Stryder-Rau and ruler of Dominion, Lucien Yavarius-Khau, was planning to secede from the Imperium. It was decided that an Execution Force led by Vindicare Absolom Raithe would be deployed to depose King Lucien and replace him with a noble who was an Imperial Loyalist.[1b][1c][1d]

The assassination attempt failed - not due to the assassins' abilities being lacking - but because King Lucien was, in fact, already dead.[1g] Nonetheless, the seemingly fatal attack on the High King prompted the nobles of Stryder and Rau to elect a new High Monarch[1h][1j] (with the assassins working behind the scenes to ensure that any potentially secessionist candidates were removed from contention).[1h][1i] Eventually, Lord Bazile Daggar-Kraine was selected to become the new High King.[1j] However, at Daggar-Kraine's coronation, the conqueror_wyrm virus contained within the Crown of Dominion, the ceremonial Knight piloted by the High Monarch, corrupted him and led to his fall to Chaos. This, combined with the sudden re-emergence of the Dread House Morvayne, led to a number of the other Knights of Stryder and Rau betraying the Imperium and joining the Dread House.[1j][1k][1l]

Eventually, the situation was stabilised. In the aftermath, what remained of Houses Stryder and Rau were restructured, now led by a pair of High Monarchs bound by marriage - one to stand watch over and defend Dominion, and one who would lead the House's Knights pledged to the Indomitus Crusade.[1l]
