The Purgus Crusade is a Black Templars Crusade, that is led by Marshal Holgher.[1b]

History

It was among the Chapter's Crusades that High Marshal Helbrecht launched after Lord Commander Guilliman criticized him for being too focused on hunting down Ghazghkull Thraka. In doing so, Guilliman charged that Helbrecht had neglected his duties in protecting the Emperor's realm. In order to rectify this, the High Marshal charged[1a] the Purgus Crusade[1b] and the other new Crusades with protecting the Ecclesiarchy's worlds that lay perilously close to the Great Rift.[1a]

While carrying out their duties, the Purgus Crusade received a plea for aid from the Ecclesiarchy-held Vatrica System and raced to help its worlds. However when they arrived, the Crusade was surprised to see it had been invaded by Necrons, instead of the forces of Chaos as they had expected. The Crusade quickly modified their battle plans and began to push the Szarekhan Dynasty forces of Overlord Tartorekh back. This allowed them to rally Vatrica's surviving Imperial military forces and civilians who wished to fight against the invaders. However the Purgus Crusade and their allies are now bogged down in a war of attrition against the Szarekhan Dynasty for the fate of the Vatrica System. The Crusade, however, is also purging any of Vatrica's Imperials that have succumbed to psychic mutation or heresy.[1b]

Among its forces, are the Strike Cruisers Unmerciful and Divine Mandate.[1b]
