Ras Shakeh is a Shrine World of the Imperium, governed by the Adepta Sororitas of the Order of the Wounded Heart since M37.[1b][1f]

History

The world was under the joint protection of the Ecclesiarchy and the Space Marines of the Adulators Chapter, however the Adulators were forced to withdraw their protection after they were stretched to the breaking point.[1b]

Ras Shakeh was to be one of the staging areas for a planned offensive to reclaim three abandoned subsectors of space. The Space Wolves were petitioned to advance on Ras Shakeh and eliminate any threats in the galactic vicinity, with their assistance secured due to the supposed existence of an old agreement between Ras Shakeh and Fenris before the Ecclesiarchy became dominant on the planet. As a result, Járnhamar Pack was deployed to the Shrine World aboard the Frigate Undrider.[1b]

It transpired that Ras Shakeh had been invaded by Chaos forces loyal to Nurgle. A plague-fleet had entered the Ras Shakeh system around six months after the Adulators withdrew their support, destroying the planet's limited orbital defences and landing troops before the majority of the fleet moved off to raid other worlds of the Ras subsector.[1f]

When the Space Wolves arrived in the Ras Shakeh System, they detected an unknown vessel in orbit around the Shrine World. Moving in to investigate, they found that it was a Chaos plague-ship. The Undrider engaged the plague-ship in battle but found that its weapons were stronger than anticipated and took heavy damage.[1c] Gunnlaugur led most of Járnhamar in a boarding action to cripple the enemy vessel while Jorundur directed the defence of Undrider.[1c]

Although Járnhamar were successful, killing the monster crewing its bridge, the plague-ship was able to fire a last shot that brought down the Undrider. Both vessels broke up in Ras Shakeh's atmosphere. Járnhamar only survived thanks to Jorundur, who rescued them from the sinking plague-ship using the Thunderhawk Vuokho.[1d][1e]

Geography

Ras Shakeh was noted for its hot, arid climate.[1h]
