Sigurd Ironside is a Space Wolves Iron Priest, who took part in the Great Crusade[1f]. This ended, though, after he was captured and held in Stasis, by the Necron's[1h] Atun Dynasty.[1e]

Biography

This occurred after suspicious transmissions and activity was detected on the world Kanak during the Great Crusade. In order to determine if a threat to the Imperium was revealing itself, Ironside travelled there alone in order to find the source of the phenomena.[1f] However after he landed, Ironside was suddenly placed in Stasis[1h] by the Atun Dynasty, as Kanak was actually one of the Dynasty's Tomb Worlds.[1e] Ironside, though, was unaware of what had happen and was stuck in that moment until late M41, when he somehow broke free of the Stasis.[1h]

This occurred after the Atun Dynasty's Necrons on Kanak had been awakened[1e], due to an invasion by the Word Bearers Dark Apostle Oriax.[1c] However by then, Kanak had become a world of the Imperium and the Great Company of Ragnar Blackmane[1e] came to the world's aid. The Word Bearers, however, had ambushed[1a] Ragnar's[1e] Strike Cruiser, Thunderwolf[1d], and it crashed in pieces onto the world. This scattered the surviving Space Wolves, but many rallied under the leadership of Valgard Twice-Slain.[1a] Valgard would fight both the Word Bearers[1c] and Atun Dynasty[1e], which led to his forces to attack a Necron temple. It was at that time, that for reasons unknown, Ironside broke free of his Stasis prison, just outside of that very same temple. This caused a large explosion and the Necron who had been near the imprisoned Ironside were destroyed. When the Iron Priest awoke he had a massive headache and discovered his Power Armor was not functioning as it should be. Almost as if it had not been maintained for a thousand years. He then saw the destroyed Necrons near him, but Ironside was unaware of what kind of Xenos they were.[1g]

Meanwhile in the Necron temple, the Wolf Priest Karl was leading Valgard's forces from the Necron temple, but they were being swarmed by the Xenos. He transmitted a plea for aid from any nearby Space Wolves, which Ironside intercepted. The transmission was laced by static, however, and the Iron Priest did not hear it clearly. Ironside knew, though, that it was coming from a Space Wolf, who was inside the nearby temple. As Ironside prepared to travel to the temple, the Iron Priest wondered if his Primarch Leman Russ had sent a search party of Space Wolves, to look for him. After Ironside located his weapons, which had been taken by the Xenos, including his Lascutter Sigurd's Spear, he began making his way to the temple. The Necron, would repeatedly bar his path, but the Iron Priest enjoyed the battle and the mysterious transmission became stronger, as he neared his goal. Finally Ironside reached the temple and was able to make clear contact with the Wolf Priest Karl. The retreating Space Wolves were near the temple's exit but needed aid, as they were heavily outnumbered. Ironside replied that he would be there soon to help them and for them to keep a few Xenos alive for him to kill[1g]. He then entered the temple and met with Karl's Space Wolves, though, Ironside noticed that their armor seemed like a simplified version, of what the Legion usually wore. Karl welcomed his aid and yelled out the Allfather's name. This also struck Ironside as odd, since Death Speakers like Karl were normally not so pious. More Necron and a Cryptek appeared, who looked upon the Iron Priest and remarked that one of their imprisoned subjects had broken loose. It then claimed it would later ensure the Necrons' stasis fields were at full integrity, before the Cryptek then attacked. The Necron proved to be no match for the Space Wolves' combined firepower and the Xenos were defeated. Karl then took Ironside to Valgard's base of operations[1h], where the Iron Priest joined their efforts to save Kanak. He soon told them why he had come to the world and they made note that the Iron Priest's armor and weapons appeared to be ancient. While Valgard's forces could not verify Ironside's story, it was enough to know that he was a Space Wolf and they decided to accept his aid. However they also decided to secretly observe the Iron Priest and began preparing a detailed report about him.[1f]
