Arcadia Neos

History

It was colonized by Elucia Vhane, who was among a group of nearly one hundred Rogue Traders that Lord Commander Guilliman charged with finding new worlds for the Imperium. This was in the aftermath of the Plague Wars and the holds of the Rogue Traders' spaceships were filled with supplies, prefabricated buildings and colonists[1a] from the Realm of Ultramar worlds that were ravaged in the conflict.[1b] Vhane and the other Rogue Traders were then dispatched beyond Ultima Segmentum's Eastern Fringe, where it was believed new worlds could be found. She then entered the Warp and with her flagship New Dawn and a Holo-map taken from her Dynasty's vaults, Vhane was able to find a fabled resource-rich star system after thirty years had passed in realspace. The worlds there were untouched and Vhane selected the most verdant one she had ever seen to be colonized first. She named it Arcadia Neos[1a] and after a survey by Vhane's crew determined the world was safe, she began sending down her colonists to begin their new lives there. The Rogue Trader also sent a message detailing their success to the Ultramarines Chapter's Macragge, which was located in the Realm of Ultramar.[1c]

However while Vhane was personally overseeing the colonization of Arcadia Neos, an outbreak of the Gellerpox had occurred aboard the New Dawn. The Nurgle Warp Disease infected not only the flagship's enginarium crew, but also parasites located aboard the spaceship. The Rogue Trader was in the process of planning other colonies and exploring Arcadia Neos' moons, when several of these mutated parasites emerged from one of the colony's prefabricated buildings. A dozen of the colonists were killed before the creatures were destroyed and soon afterwards, it was determined they had come from the New Dawn. This led Vhane to lead a hand-picked team from the Elucidian Starstriders, which consisted of her retinue and Voidsmen, to discover what had happened aboard her flagship. After they arrived, via the transport shuttle Truehawk though, the Rogue Trader and Starstriders were attacked by the Gellerpox infected, who were led by the Twisted Lord Vulgrar Thrice-Cursed. They were able to fight their way deeper into the starship, but once Vhane saw the extent of the infestation and corruption the New Dawn now carried, she ordered the surviving Starstriders to escape aboard the Truehawk.[1c]

Once the transport was on its way to return to Arcadia Neos, the Rogue Trader entered the code to activate her flagship's remote self-destruct function. As the data transmitted though the Truehawk's klaxon blared, however Gellerpox infected emerged from the shuttle's innards. What followed was a desperate battle for survival, as Vhane ordered the surviving Elucidian Starstriders to make for the transport's Escape Pods.[1c] Vhane and the Starstriders that managed to enter the pods, later landed amidst Arcadia Neos' colony. The Gellerpox's threat was not over yet, as the Twisted Lord Vulgrar Thrice-Cursed and several of the infected had escaped from the Truehawk and New Dawn as well. What followed was a ferocious battle for the fate of Arcadia Neos and while several of the Starstriders were killed, they ensured that all of the Gellerpox infected were destroyed. Vhane struck Thrice-Cursed down herself and afterwards she resumed leading the colony. However with the New Dawn destroyed, any further colonization of Arcadia Neos' System was put on hold and it would be be months or years before the Ultramarines arrived in response to the message she had sent out earlier.[1d] The Imperium would eventually reach Arcadia Neos, though, and Vhane would leave afterwards to resume her duties as a Rogue Trader.[2]
