Desert Raiders is a Warhammer 40,000 novel written by Lucien Soulban.

Cover Description

When an Imperial listening station receives an enigmatic call for help from a far-flung planet, a regiment of Tallarn Desert Raiders is sent to investigate. Pretty soon, the Imperial Guard find themselves locked in a desperate running battle with wave upon wave of Tyranids. Is there any way they can ever triumph against such numberless alien hordes?

Summary

The novel follows two Imperial Guard Regiments of the Tallarn Desert Raiders (the 82nd Shaytani of the Dust and the 351st Derv'sh Blades of the Imperium) units that are brought together after both being decimated to form the Tallarn 892nd. Sent to a planet from which an astropath distress call originates, the two units find they have religious differences, and this threatens the survival of the units as they are set upon by Tyranids. The two regiments are eventually combined in the face of the new danger, and see off the first attack, but the unit is destroyed by the rest of the Tyranid landings. The resident psyker sends off the very message the regiment received before they left, and destiny continues it's course.
