History

Spoiler!
This page contains spoilers for: Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Prophecy

It was chosen, after the Chapter had been nearly destroyed, when most of the Stormwatchers began worshiping Khorne. Those who refused to do so, were killed and when the last was hunted down, the Heretics became the Voidrippers Warband. They then vanished into the Warp, but were unaware that a few loyal Stormwatchers had survived the Voidrippers' purge. With the aid of the Inquisitors of the Caligari Sector, the survivors were able to rebuild the Stormwatcher Chapter and Ascalon was chosen as their new Homeworld. However to ensure the Voidrippers would not return, the Chapter and Conclave worked together to keep the Stormwatchers existence a secret[1e]. In time, only the Chapter's Grand Masters[1a] and the Conclave's upper echelons would know the truth[1e]. This would extend to Ascalon's people as well and despite the Stormwatchers living there and recruiting from the world, they were not discovered by its population.[1g]

However this changed in M42, due to the actions of a low-ranking Caligari Conclave Inquisitor[1a]. He was unaware of the connection between the Voidrippers and the Chapter[1e], when he entered a seemingly abandoned Stormwatcher Starfort[1b], in what the Inquisitor knew was a forbidden System to travel to[1a]. In reality, the Starfort belonged to the Voidrippers and was known to the Warband as the Blood Fort[1g]. When the Inquisitor then began activating it, alongside his Stormwatcher retinue member, Sergeant Caius Thorn[1b], the Voidrippers became aware of their presence and attacked them[1c]. While the two escaped, the Warband saw Thorn for what he was and now knew that the Stormwatchers still lived[1d]. They then gathered their forces and launched a Crusade to finally destroy the Chapter. The Voidrippers quickly learned that Ascalon was the Stormwatchers' new Homeworld[1f] and opened a Warp Rift, within one of its forts[1i]. This allowed the Warband to launch a sudden invasion, alongside their Goreforged Chaos Cult[1h] and their allies, the Chaos Knight Abraxas[1i] and the Khorne Daemons of the Gore-Drenched One Herald[1j]. This large force allowed them to begin overwhelming the Stormwatchers, who were led by their Grand Master Godfrey Magnusson[1f]. He would also call upon Astra Militarum Regiments from nearby worlds, to aid Ascalon until the his Chapter's off-world Stormwatchers could return[1g]. However the tide finally turned against the Voidrippers, when the contrite Inquisitor who had entered Fort Blood, and brought about the invasion, arrived with the Freeblade Ambrose Caradoc. Their strength[1i] allowed the Stormwatchers to close the captured fort's Warp Rift and stopped the Voidrippers from receiving any further reinforcements. This was a hard blow to the Warband's invasion and they also suffered heavily losses in the attack on the fort, including the death of their leader Golgarth. Despite this, though, the remnants of the Voidrippers invading forces continue to fight on Ascalon.[1j]
