Lucian Trajan
Lucian Trajan was a former Captain of the Ultramarines Chapter's 2nd Company.[1]
History
He served as its First Sergeant, when the 2nd was led by Captain Severus Agemman, during the First Tyrannic War. However the Company was fighting elsewhere, when the Ultramarines' Homeworld, Macragge, was invaded by Hive Fleet Behemoth. Though the 2nd raced to aid their Chapter, they arrived after victory had been achieved at Macragge and the Company instead joined the Imperial reinforcements that helped in scouring Ultramar's worlds of the Hive Fleet's presence. As this occurred, the Ultramarines began to rebuild their devastated Chapter and Agemman was made the Captain of the 1st Company. Trajan would then become the 2nd's Captain and Demetrian Titus became the Sergent of his Command Squad. The 2nd would then continue to aid in the effort to purge Ultramar of Hive Fleet Behemoth's remnants.[1]
For a century afterwards, Trajan and Titus not only fought together, but also flourished under the tutelage they received from First Captain Severus Agemman. However this ended, when the 2nd Company was sent to aid the besieged Imperial world Beta-Arcturus. It had been invaded by the Asuryani forces of Craftworld Biel-Tan and once the 2nd arrived, Trajan led a Demi-Company against the Xenos' Autarch leader. The Captain then killed the Autarch in single combat, as Titus and his Command Squad kept the Xenos leader's Aspect Warrior bodyguards at bay. Their Autarch's death caused Biel-Tan's surviving forces to retreat, but as they did so the Xenos captured the Ultramarine Leandros. This led Trajan to give command of the Company to Titus, so that he could lead a combat squad to free the young warrior. Leandros was merely bait to lure the Captain into a trap, though, and Trajan's squad was ambushed by Biel-Tan's hidden reserve forces. The Captain was then surrounded by the Xenos and mercilessly killed. After learning of this, Titus was able to lead the 2nd in an attack that finally drove off the Xenos from Beta-Arcturus and Leandros and Trajan's body were recovered.[1]
Upon the 2nd Company's return to Macragge, Trajan was placed in a grand sepulchre within the Ultramarines' Fortress of Hera. Its Chapter Master, Marneus Calgar, then decided to make Titus the 2nd's new Captain. While some of his Battle Brothers had thought it was a rank he was suited for, Titus had never sought to rise to such heights. He had been content with his position as Sergeant and had only wished to serve Trajan and the Emperor in whatever way was asked of him. While Titus accepted becoming the 2nd Company's Captain,[1] he felt the weight of taking over his predecessor's mantle.[2]
