Foronika is a world that lies within the Argovon System.[1] It is the innermost of the system's worlds.[2a]

Overview

It is the most sparsely populated world of the Argovon System, but of immense strategic significance due to its noctilith deposits.[1] The Adeptus Mechanicus have taken great interest in Foronika.[2a]

History

Foronika once possessed a relatively primitive populace of nomadic tribesmen. However, at one point the Rogue Trader Volorin Kendar arrived on the planet, being forced to hunker down on Foronika in order to hide from those he owed considerable debts to. Kendar spent twelve years on Foronika, during which he wrote a painstaking account of his life on the world.[2a]

Eventually Kendar was tracked down and caught by his creditors. His work was seized and eventually caught the attention of the Adeptus Mechanicus. By the Age of the Dark Imperium, the Mechanicus had established a strong presence on Foronika, building a large number of forgeshrines on the planet's surface in order to conduct experiments involving the planet's Blackstone deposits.[2a]

During the Indomitus Crusade's Argovon Campaign, substantial resources were spent capturing key areas of Foronika for exploitation by the Adeptus Mechanicus. Millions died, and two million died capturing the world's Humps of Kafusa over an 8 month offensive, supported by the Tome Keepers 3rd Company, and lances of Knights from House Boros.[1]

Geography

Due to its highly elliptical orbit, Foronika's average surface temperature is quite variable. Nonetheless, Foronika's proximity to its star ensures that, whatever the time of year, the temperature will be high.[2a]

Foronika has five continents.[2b] A large percentage of the planet's surface is covered by ash deserts, many of which are radioactive. Dust storms are frequent in the deserts, some of which were used as cover for swarms of Necron Scarabs.[2a]

Besides the deserts, Foronika possesses a number of mountain ranges, and some small oceans, but these are acidic.[2a]

Society

The Adeptus Mechanicus has a lot of influence on Foronika, with many of the native humans in their service. The Planetary Governor of Foronika by the time of the Pariah Crusade was Magos Rungus Myern I.[2a]

Before the coming of the Mechanicus, the native humans of Foronika lived a nomadic, tribal lifestyle. However, most of the natives abandoned their old ways and most of the existing settlements due to the rewards offered by serving the Mechanicus, including food and life-extending augmetics.[2a]

Military

Foronika contributes regiments for the Astra Militarum - infantry regiments known as the Foronikan Pioneers and formations of Sentinels known as the Foronikan Ironstalkers.[2a]

The planet possesses a Planetary Defence Force called the Foronikan Prospect Guard. In addition, prior to the emergence of the Pariah Nexus, Foronika was garrisoned by a large number of Adeptus Mechanicus troops from Voss Prime.[2a]
