Charpactin
The Charpactin are a race of sentient fungoid creatures who encountered the T'au Empire's Fe'saan Water Caste diplomats during the Fifth Sphere of Expansion.[1]
They communicate entirely in bursts of ultraviolet colour, whose strobing emanations prove surprisingly effective at subduing and transfixing living beings — making them docile and amenable. After the Water Caste observed this in action, the T'au Empire quickly negotiated a client-state treaty with the Charpactin and have since drafted many of the fungoid creatures into its growing Edification Corps.[1]
