Katarinya Greyfax (rosette number 9588/D7[13a]) is a Radical[11] (though she was initially a Puritan) Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus.[1]
Biography
Greyfax was imprisoned within a Tesseract Vault by the Necron Overlord Trazyn the Infinite for centuries until she was released, along with his other prisoners, to aid the Imperium's forces on Cadia during the 13th Black Crusade. Despite being a powerful Psyker herself, when Greyfax emerged she was shocked at the sight of Imperial psykers using their powers without sanction and to see the Space Wolves Chapter's Wulfen running rampant on the battlefield. What left her utterly appalled though, was seeing how the Imperial defenders of Cadia worshiped the so-called Living Saint, Celestine — as it was nothing short of idolatry in Greyfax's mind. These sights, however, have not shaken her unwavering faith in the Emperor and Greyfax is committed to aiding the Imperium in defending Cadia. Greyfax ultimately worked alongside these psychic abominations and mutants such as Wulfen in battling Abaddon personally.[1][2]
Ultimately, however, Cadia fell and Greyfax fled to the outer system with several of her allies such as Saint Celestine and Belisarius Cawl. Hounded by the Black Legion, they were guided into the Webway on Kalisus by Eldrad Ulthran.[2]
Greyfax accompanied Celestine during the subsequent Ultramar Campaign and fought in the Fortress of Hera as Roboute Guilliman was reborn. She took part in the resulting Terran Crusade and was one of the few of the Imperial expedition to reach Terra. During the voyage she finally put her suspicion towards unnatural entities like Celestine past her, and was freed from Trazyn's Mindshackle Scarab by Belisarius Cawl. Once on Terra, Celestine and Greyfax announced their intent to spread their blessings across Terra and report to their masters in the Ordo Hereticus.[3]
Later, Inquisitors Greyfax and Horst and a squad of Grey Knights were sent by Roboute Guilliman to recover the Eye of Night. The two inquisitors entered the Eye of Terror, seeking the location of the Eye of Night from Moriana who revealed that Horst knew the location but that he was suffering from amnesia. She gave them a daemonic guide who led them to a daemon prince who held Horst's body and the Eye of Night. Greyfax killed the daemon, and Horst in the process, and recovered the Eye of Night from within its body.[4]
Greyfax has been active in combating the enemies of mankind since her return, such as working with the White Scars to set a trap of Deathstrike Missile Launchers that obliterated the Death Guard on the world of Dortwyr.[5] The Inquisitor has now found recent prominence, due to her fanatical purges of Necron forces localized around Ultramar.[6]
She later became embroiled in the affairs of Ecclesiarch Decius XXIII, who was attempting to repeal the Decree Passive. She saved the Ecclesiarch from several assassination attempts alongside Saint Celestine. The two servants of the Emperor bonded during the journey to Ophelia VII to protect the Ecclesiarch. In the end, it was revealed the entire affair was a plan by the Tyrant of Blueflame to manifest into the Materium by taking Celestine's body. After the Tyrant was defeated, the two parted ways.[8]
By the several year mark of the Indomitus Crusade, Greyfax had taken control of the Inquisitorial Conclave based on Luna and oversaw the fortress there. She spoke to her subordinate Rostov on the matter of the Hand of Abaddon seeking to reconstruct the Anathame.[10]
At some point, Inquisitor Greyfax executed the Ordo Xenos Inquisitor Helynna Valeria, who like Greyfax once was discovered to be under the influence of Trazyn's Mindshackle Scarabs.[9]
Later, having learned of the many and varied threats to the Imperium, she adopted the Radical mindset. In the "new" galaxy, all means are good - as long as they serve the good of Humanity itself.[11]
