Recently, I've been doing a deep dive on the lore of the game Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. Since I haven't found much information about the game's lore I began building up a seemingly abandoned fandom site to the game.
I've been compiling all of the lore I could find, sourced item descriptions, out of game content, and character dialogue, and organizing it on the dedicated | Darktide Fandom page. That site is my primary work area for compiling and writing lore. I'm hoping to archive some of the concrete info on a more secure and reputable platform for others to easily reference.
Bell of Lost Souls is also wanting more images of video game sources and the like. So hopefully I'll get around to adding lore-important screenshots of the hundreds of item descriptions and quotes, which will be a project in itself.
Contents
Working On
Everything related to Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.
- Work on these pages is sporadic and infrequent. The citation work for Tertium or Atoma is a daunting thought that can only be done in peices and with careful wording. My interested have drifted after creating the foundation.
- With the release of the Darktide Wrath & Glory I've returned to the Darktide pages and begun revising and cleaning up the half finished pages. Text sources are a lot easier and straight-forward citation process than video games.
Other interests include anything Adeptus Mechanicus related I come across; primarily Dominion Genesis (Novel) and Belisarius Cawl: The Great Work (Novel). I'm also working to bolster the presence of other video game pages such as Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. I've also been thumbing through various Dark Heresy TTRPG books.
- Belisarius Cawl: The Great Work (Novel) - Combed through all of it as far as I can tell
To do
- Genefather (Novel) - Still need to do many, many character specific pages and other things
- Dominion Genesis (Novel) - Still some characters to do.
- Make pages for Vostroyan 103rd, techpriests in charge of the forge worlds, etc
- Redo organization of existing pages: Almagest page - too lengthy and too step-by-step details (lots of unnecessary clutter). Nekane Lucanus pages needs better formatting and info organization. Talin Sherax reread and assess formatting/organization.
- Readdress: techseer = lector dogmis?
- Dark Tongue need to rewrite some portions that are essentially copy-and-pasted
- Need to check and declutter many of the pages
- Currently attempting to declutter and update Darktide character pages and Atoma/Tertium pages. A page for each Hive district? likely.
- add SOB codex info to Purity Seal pages.
- Magistratum Enforcers stuff all around those pages
- Go through and make pages for WH Crime book glossaries (See Imperial Terms)
- Add more Crucis patterns to Crucis page; weapons and wargear. Take a closer look at psyker Vowguard gear.

Sourcing Darktide
Still figuring out the best way to source a game like Darktide. Most lore comes in a sentence or two of bite sized nuggets and a couple pages, like Moebian Domain and Moebian Regiments could easily have 30-50 items linked for various info. Character pages might be challenging to source since much is learned from various pieces of dialogue that can only be vaguely referenced, at best.
There is also the Luetin09 "Deep Dive Lore" video about the history of the Moebian Domain. Thankfully much of it is being reiterated in various in-game item descriptions, however, there are some pieces of info that are still solely found in his video. It was officially endorsed and prompted by Fatshark as a form of prerelease content to hype up the fanbase. While not stated explicitly to be sponsored by Fatshark, it's officially endorsed by Fatshark, the developers for Darktide.
Source Images (WIP)
Darktide image repository for source image preservation yet to be created. Naming format of the page is yet to be decided.
- Item description - full screen
- Item bundle - full screen
- Quote (npc) - crop subtitles
- Quote (npc conversation) - crop subtitles & edit into top-down sequential order
- Quote (Player) - crop subtitles (no way to identify class/personality)
- Quote (Player conversation) - cropped subtitles & edit into top-down sequential order
- Misc/speculative - Environmental related quotes?
Item Descriptions
Item description are locked behind a time-gate and pay-gate of a rotating shop inventory. Some items cannot be read at all after being purchased, with the only text being in the shop, for example, accessories and weapon skins. This is the easy to reference, but hard to verify/double-check sources for anything behind one of these gates, unless a screenshot is archived somewhere.
In Game Dialogue
NPC Character Dialogue
The main npc characters are more reliable sources since the desired reference can be triggered during specific missions at specific trigger locations/actions.
For example, the quote from Zola referenced below can be narrowed down to a specific character, map or mission, and the trigger location in that map or mission[1a]. Most mission director dialogue normally only have 1-4 different variants. One of the dialogue option for that trigger is played when reaching a specific location in the mission, or at the start and end of an event during a mission. This narrows the referenced dialogue line down a specific of a point in the game.
All of the lines of dialogue for a specific area/director generally imply the same meaning, or add a different perspective or detail to a certain subject or area encountered.[1a]
So NPC character dialogue has be divided into Mission Director Dialogue and Hub Vox Comms Dialogue.
Inter-Player Character Conversation Dialogue
Player character conversations mid-game are challenging to reference, resulting in vague sources, but some conversations contain world-building that must be noted. There isn't a good way to cite it due to it being an RNG conversation that randomly occurs during the downtime between fighting large hordes of enemies. So it is still cited but can only be done vaguely, at best.
It is harder to reference in game dialogue from player characters due to the random nature of dialogue occurrences and many player-to-player dialogue conversations depend are a certain combination of personalities from the same or different classes.
The npc reference example only narrows the source down to one of the 3 personalities (voice actors) of the veteran class (1 of the 4 classes)[1b]. Unfortunately, this only narrows the reference down to a few hundred lines of dialogue[1b].
There are some more reliable lines for class/personality combos that have map-specific triggers, seen in the third example[1c]. This specific example uses Metalfab 36, a map with 3 variants for different missions. The specific dialogue being referenced "This manufactorum supplies at least half the subsector, or that's what I overheard from Rannick." has a chance of triggering at the start of any of the three missions for the Metalfab 36.
An idea for sourcing quotes from specific conversations here, the quote in mind being the one mentioning Atoma's "riveting camelid races"[2a]. The format being "Class & Personality / Class & Personality". Character gender doesn't normally matter, since most lines are shared. There are a few disparities between occassional dialogues, such as the female voice has Male Psyker Loner and Female Zealot Fanatic lines about how she believes Morrow wants her to fail or other psyker dialogue where she apologizes to a psyker about trying to kill them before on the Mourningstar. There isn't any easy way to confirm whether a voice file is shared (as far as I'm aware). So the attempt to clarify these things still feels moderately futile.

Hello :) Just double checking that you are familiar with the Lexicanum citation rules for citing video games:
"For videogames (no matter the format or platform) it is compulsory to provide a screenshot (for statically displayed information) or screen recording (for information that is transmitted by audio). All screenshots/ screen recordings should be collected on a subpage named "Sources" of the corresponding parent article and be numbered exactly according to the sources list of the parent article. The subpage must be named according to the following naming pattern: "...Parentpage/Sources"" The citation rules page in question. If you are already aware of this, then please disregard my post. Have a great day! --Librariusfunk (talk) 14:36, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
