Stingwings (Mal'kor in the Tau Language, the same term given to the Vespids as a whole[1a]) are Vespid auxiliary squads.[1a]

Overview
Stingwings, sometimes referred to as Royal Bodyguards, are the base Vespid tactical unit and are most commonly used to protect the Vespid hive leadership class.[2] More recently, they have been used by the Tau Empire as auxiliary infantry squads and even Kill Team units due to their speed and tenacity. The Tau value Stingwings greatly and sometimes equip them with weaponry only reserved for Battlesuit.[1a]
Forces
- Strain Leader: Squad leaders fitted with a Vespid Communion Helm and equipped with a Neutron Blaster. They are tasked primarily with interpreting the command of the Stingwing's Tau handler and relaying it to the rest of the squad. The precise role they play in greater Vespid society is unclear, but Vespid obey their orders without question.[1c]
- Warrior: Standard type of Vespid infantry that comprise the bulk of their forces.[1c] Equipped with Neutron Blasters.[1d]
- Longsting: Marksman equipped with a Neutron Rail Rifle[1d] who can use their flight to rapidly change positions, making them deadly snipers amidst dense terrain.[1c]
- Shadestrain: Rarer type of warrior that are equipped with camouflaging Ghost Rigs.[1c] Equipped with a Neutron Sting and Neutron Grenades.[1d]
- Skyblast: Close-quarters heavy weapons warrior[1c] equipped with a Neutron Grenade Launcher.[1d]
- Swarmguard: Close-quarters heavy weapons warrior[1c] equipped with a Tau Flamer.[1d]
- Oversight Drone - Used by the Tau Stingwing handler to monitor their activities.[1c]
