Sage of Slaughter

Sages of Slaughter are World Eaters who have embraced the suffering their Butcher's Nails bring them and welcome their rage as well, as they feel it is an agony-fueled existence that is a pure form of worshiping Khorne.[1a]

History

Through doing so, they have accepted that the inevitability of death and suffering is a recognition that nothing truly matters. This has led the Sages to seek solace in violence, as they believe it is the truest state of the universe and losing oneself to it is the only way they find true peace until death claims them. To the Sages of Slaughter, those who resist this reality do nothing but bring pain and misery to themselves and the Sages have come to pity Daemon Princes, for being forever trapped in a life that does not end. Repeatedly losing themselves to violence, however, will cause the Sages to eventually enter a state where they become one with their rage and their hearts beat in time to the pulse of their Butcher's Nails. This allows them to enter a mental, physical and spiritual place, where there is nothing within the Sages, but a flowing state of killing.[1a]

However though they have the same goal, the Sages of Slaughter are not a united collective and they are as likely to kill each other, than fight side by side. Their state of mind, has also led them to not care for anything of the material world and they are indifferent to the gradual disintegration of their weapons and power armour. The Sages do not seek to gather Warbands as well, as they view positions of leadership and power as wasteful distractions. Despite this, many Sages of Slaughter still gain awed devotees who desperately wish to follow them for either two reasons: To earn a shred of the solace the Sages have achieved, or else miss the point of their philosophy entirely and simply hope to earn great glory by following a Sage of Slaughter into battles.[1a]
